Thousands of people from all walks of life enjoy products from hemp and cannabis plants. Delta-8 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a special kind of product from the cannabis and hemp family.

Like other cannabinoids that emerge from cannabis and hemp plants, Delta-8 THC has remarkable qualities that many people enjoy. However, many wonder, “Does Delta-8 make you hungry?”

With the rising popularity of Delta-8 THC, we’ve been getting a lot of questions from curious CBD enthusiasts. A common and understandable question is, “Does Delta-8 THC make you hungry?” This is a good question for many reasons.

Delta-8 is relatively new to people in many locations and markets. Since much of the information that people hear is unconfirmed, they may not know which information to give credence to. This article will help to shed light on the answer to this important question.

It will also provide more information about this almost magical substance and the startling benefits we are all just beginning to glimpse.

Delta-8 Appetite

There is a lot of information floating around about the effects that Delta-8 THC has on the digestive system. Some sources, usually unconfirmed, hold that this interesting molecule does not affect the average human digestive system. Others maintain that this substance influences our digestive processes from the first mouthful through elimination.

So, which of these camps is correcty? Luckily, researchers from various institutions and even some independent ones continue to sponsor and run rigorous scientific studies about this subject.[1] We can look at the results of some of the more credible experiments and see what conclusion we can draw about the question, “Does Delta-8 make you hungry?”

Understanding the Delta-8 and Its Relative Delta-9

Compared to its famous and widely consumed cousin Delta-9 THC, which is commonly found in garden variety Cannabis sativa,  Delta-8 is a newcomer to the party. However, understanding the the more familiar delta-9 THC will help you to understand the newer delta-8 THC.

Cannabis plants contain various psychoactive cannabinoids. There are hundreds of identified cannabinoids from these plants. Each of these natural chemicals has its unique structure and effect on the human body.[2]

So, what parts of the human brain and body give these cannabinoid molecules access?

It’s called the endocannabinoid system (ECS), and it involves cellular messaging. Some human cells have receptors that can link with cannabinoid molecules. For example, the cellular components that deal with Delta-9 and Delta-8 THC molecules are known as Cannabinoid-1(CB1) receptor and CB2 receptor.[3]

When these special neural sites activate, they produce certain documented responses in the human body.[2]

In contrast to Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 comes from the hemp plant. Hemp is a plant member of the cannabis family that closely relates to marijuana in various ways. Hemp plants produce some of the same cannabinoid chemicals as their marijuana cousins, just in lower percentages.[4][8]

Since there is so little natural Delta-8 around, experts looked for ways to produce more of it with the help of chemistry. They succeeded with the cannabinoid conversion approach.

Hemp plants tend to produce much more CBD than Delta-8. It turns out that chemists can transform pure CBD into delta-8.

The cannabinoid conversion process involves taking hemp extract and purifying it into 98% CBD. Then, chemists take this extract and filter out unwanted terpenes and cannabinoids, creating CBD isolate.

Next, the manufacturer will combine the CBD isolate with a non-polar solvent and acid. This mixture ignites the cannabinoid conversion.

Before testing the final product, chemists will neutralize and clean the solution to remove unwanted residue from acid and solvent. Finally, they test the product to ensure quality and lack of unwanted chemicals. The result is a fully converted Delta-8 product. [5]

Does Delta-8 Give You the Munchies?

When contemplating the overall question about Delta-8 appetite, you can also consider how similar in structure Delta-8 and Delta-9 might be. The difference between Delta-8 and Delta-9 molecules is as small as one double chemical bond.

Delta-8 is an isomer of Delta-9, meaning it has an identical chemical formula. However, the two cannabinoids have a slightly different molecular structure.

Delta-9’s carbon atom is a double-bond located on the 9th chain of the cannabinoid’s molecular structure, giving it its name. Delta-8’s double-bond is on the 8th chain, differentiating the two cannabinoids in terms of molecular structure.[6]

Although the only difference between the two cannabinoids is the double-bond placement on their molecular structure, studies show that they can have different effects on a person.

Studies show that Delta-8 is appetite stimulating more often than an appetite suppressant, producing the “munchies” feeling following consumption. Although Delta-9 has similar effects, research suggests that Delta-8 has a stronger impact on appetite. [1]

What Else Comes with the Delta-8 Munchies?

Up to this point, you’ve learned a lot about how Delta-8 munchies can affect your appetite and your digestive system. As it turns out, this multifaceted molecule can provide other body systems with many therapeutic and beneficial effects.

Researchers found that Delta-8 not only made people hungrier after consumption, but it also could improve cognitive function without the traditional high of Delta-9 THC. [1]

Along with the potential munchies, certain studies suggest that consuming Delta-8 can have various other positive effects on the body. [7]

Anti-Pain

Although some of the studies present mixed results, the preponderance of evidence from studies and surveys, and other sources of data indicates that it does indeed have a therapeutic effect on specific types of pain in the body and has the potential to treat, cure, or prevent certain ailments. [7]

Suppress Nausea

Nausea can be an acute issue, but for many people, it is a chronic cause of discomfort. Individuals who undergo ongoing medical treatments such as chemotherapy therapy may also suffer from serious bouts of nausea. In addition to the pain and discomfort that it causes, it also prevents those who suffer from it from getting proper nutrition.

Thankfully, certain cannabinoids show promise in the anti-nausea fight. For example, Delta-9 THC found in Cannabis sativa is well-known for its appetite-producing effects. Delta-8, with its related structure and milder effects, also has a similar ability to restore people’s appetites.[4]

Now you know about some of the therapeutic effects that Delta-8 THC products can have on your system. Does Delta 8 make you hungry? Depending on who you are, it can likely stimulate your appetite in a healthy way. [1]

Use Delta-8 Munchies to Your Advantage

On its own, appetite is neither positive nor negative. The foods we eat when we are hungry determine how much nutrition we get from each meal. To make your Delta-8 munchies a strength and get more nutrition out of your snacks, you can follow some of the following healthy eating tips.

●       Don’t Skimp on the Protein: Does Delta-8 give you the munchies? If it does, you can turn to protein-packed goodies like lean meats or tofu.

●       Eat Your Vegetables: When you get the munchies, eating delicious veggies like carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, avocados, and similar items can satisfy your appetite while providing you with valuable phytonutrients and fiber.

●       Stay Hydrated: Ensure that you get your recommended amount of liquid nutrition every day too. Water, all-natural juice, and even smoothies are all healthy  options.

If you make wise choices when you get the munchies, you can turn this Delta-8 feature into a real blessing.
